    Library FAQs

      • Just bring your library card from your home library, along with a photo ID, to either our Main Library or our West Branch. You will be asked to fill out a library card application form, and we will verify that your card is in good standing with your home library. (Note that some resources, including most of CCPL's digital collections, are only available to Carmel resident cardholders.)

      • Visit the library with an ID showing your current address, and we will confirm that your contact information is up to date and renew your card. If your ID doesn't show your current address, please also bring along an official document, such as a utility bill or bank statement, that shows your current address.

      • Your PIN is usually the last four digits of your phone number unless you've changed it. If that doesn't work, give us a call at 317.814.3936.

      • Yes, we can send your hold and due-date notifications by text instead of by email. Click here to sign up.

      • Click the Log In/My CCPL link at the top of this page. Once you're logged in, you can view your checkouts, renew items, pause or cancel your holds, and more. Click here for more information about logging in to see your checkouts and holds. If you need help, call us at 317.814.3936.

      • Click on the Log In/My CCPL link at the top of this page to log into your online account. From there, click on Checked Out and choose the items you want to renew. Need help? Call us at 317.814.3936.

      • Yes!

      • Yes, you can pause your holds so that you will continue to move up in the waiting list, but the hold will not be made available for you until the date you specify. Click Log In/My CCPL at the top of this page. Once you're logged in, click on your On Hold items, and a Pause hold button will appear under each hold. If you need help, call us at 317.814.3936.

You can also pause holds that you've placed on digital items through the Libby by OverDrive app. Learn how at help.libbyapp.com.

      • The library doesn't keep a list of past checkouts once items are returned. However, our online catalog provides a way that you can manually keep a list of books you've completed if you want to. Click here for a quick video about how it works.

      • CCPL resident cardholders are welcome to submit suggestions for purchase or interlibrary loan requests for items that aren't in the library's collection.

If the item was published or released in the past 2 years, you can submit a suggestion for purchase through your online account. Click the Log In/My CCPL link at the top of this page and log in. In the My Library Dashboard screen that appears, click on Submit a Suggestion.

If the item is older than 2 years or you know you'd like to do an interlibrary loan, click here to submit an interlibrary loan request. We will try to find another library who would be willing to lend us their copy for you to check out. (Only books—not audiovisual items—are eligible for interlibrary loan.)

Remember that you can also use your CCPL card to check things out from the other public libraries in Hamilton County, so you can check their website catalogs for title availability, too.

Need help? Give us a call at 317.814.3988.

      • Visit our Download & Stream webpage to see the services you can access with your CCPL card. Many of these services offer apps so you can download and enjoy the titles on a device, and we've included some Help links at the bottom of that page to help you get started using them.

      • Yes, if you would like to donate books or other materials, you may drop them off at the Foundation Friends Bookstore in the Main Library. Click here for complete details.

      • We don't have a fax machine, but we do have scanners at the Main Library that you can use to scan and email documents. Look for them in the Copy, Scan, & Print areas on the first and second floors. (Still need a fax machine? Try the UPS Store at 484 E Carmel Drive.)

      • We don't, but try your bank or the UPS Store at 484 E Carmel Drive.

      • Yes, your Carmel Clay Public Library card can be used to check out materials from the other public libraries in Hamilton County. Just take your CCPL card, along with a photo ID, to the neighboring library to get registered in their system. (Note that some services and resources, including digital collections, may only be available to resident cardholders.)

If you'd like to be able to check out materials from any public library in Indiana, you can purchase a state-administered Public Library Access Card (PLAC) for $65/year. A PLAC can be purchased at any Indiana public library.

      • If you would like a library representative to speak to your group about library services or if you'd like the library to have a booth or table at your community event, click here for our Outreach Request Form.

      • If you are a program presenter and would like to submit a proposal for a library program or exhibit, click here for our Program/Exhibit Proposal Form.

      • Take a look at our online calendar. (We've even got a couple of quick pro tips for getting the most out of it.)

You can also sign up to receive our monthly email newsletters, which are a great way to find out about upcoming programs, exciting new services, recommended reads, and more.
